﴿ ۞ قَالَتْ رُسُلُهُمْ أَفِى ٱللَّهِ شَكٌّۭ فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ يَدْعُوكُمْ لِيَغْفِرَ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرَكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍۢ مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا بَشَرٌۭ مِّثْلُنَا تُرِيدُونَ أَن تَصُدُّونَا عَمَّا كَانَ يَعْبُدُ ءَابَآؤُنَا فَأْتُونَا بِسُلْطَٰنٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ ﴾

“Said the apostles sent unto them: "Can there be any doubt about [the existence and oneness of] God, the Originator of the heavens and the earth? It is He who calls unto you, so that He may forgive you [whatever is past] of your sins and grant you respite until a term [set by Him is fulfilled]." [But] they replied: "You are nothing but mortal men like ourselves! You want to turn us away from what our forefathers were wont to worship: well, then, bring us a clear proof [of your being God's message-bearers]!"”

( قالت رسلهم أفي الله شك ) هذا استفهام بمعنى نفي ما اعتقدوه ( فاطر السماوات والأرض ) خالقهما ( يدعوكم ليغفر لكم من ذنوبكم ) أي : ذنوبكم و " من " صلة ( ويؤخركم إلى أجل مسمى ) إلى حين استيفاء آجالكم فلا يعاجلكم بالعذاب .( قالوا ) للرسل : ( إن أنتم إلا بشر مثلنا ) في الصورة ، ولستم ملائكة وإنما ( تريدون ) بقولكم ( أن تصدونا عما كان يعبد آباؤنا فأتونا بسلطان مبين ) حجة بينة على صحة دعواكم .
