﴿ وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِٱلْأُنثَىٰ ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُۥ مُسْوَدًّۭا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌۭ ﴾

“for, whenever any of them is given the glad tiding of [the birth of] a girl, his face darkens, and he is filled with suppressed anger,”

( وإذا بشر أحدهم بالأنثى ظل وجهه مسودا ) متغيرا من الغم والكراهية ، ( وهو كظيم ) وهو ممتلئ حزنا وغيظا فهو يكظمه أي : يمسكه ولا يظهره .
