﴿ قَالُوا۟ تَٱللَّهِ لَقَدْ ءَاثَرَكَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَإِن كُنَّا لَخَٰطِـِٔينَ ﴾

“[The brothers] said: "By God! Most certainly has God raised thee high above us, and we were indeed but sinners!"”

Their statement, 'By God, truly God has preferred you over us: an allusion to the faculties, upon uprightness, being guided to his perfection and their falling short of that.
