﴿ كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ ﴾

“Those who lived before them did [too] give the lie to the truth - whereupon suffering befell them without their having perceived whence it came:”

(Those before them) those before your people, O Muhammad, such as the people of Hud, Salih and Shu'ayb as well as others (denied, and so the doom came on them whence they knew not) it was coming.
