﴿ بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا ﴾

“But nay, [O men,] you prefer the life of this world,”

But ye prefer the life of the world) you chose to strive for the life of the world and preferred the reward of the life of the world to the reward of the Hereafter.
